FAITH IS THE VICTORY

“Victory belongs to the most persevering.” This quote, attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte, speaks of victory being achieved
through persistence, showing a tenacity to not give up, even if things get difficult

I can’t help but think about the Christian life. On more than one occasion in Scripture, we are encouraged to “endure,” for it’s
those who have “stick-to-itiveness” that will receive the ultimate prize . . . the crown of life (James 1:12).

This victory can only be achieved in Jesus Christ. Paul makes this clear when he tells the Corinthian brethren, “But thanks be
to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57). Salvation is found in no other name but Jesus (Acts 4:12).

The apostle John gives further information regarding this victory in 1 John 5. After talking about an obedient faith being
mandatory in being born of God (vs. 1-3), John adds “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world – our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (vs. 4-5).

May we be encouraged by Jesus’s words to persevere the struggles of this life and gain the victory by what He says in John
16:33 – “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
