The answer to the title of this article would seem obvious. If I make a wrong turn, I need to correct my course and get back on the right road. Sounds simple, right? The same can be said in our Christian lives. When we sin, when we make “a wrong turn,” we need to change our mind (repent) on the direction we are going and get back on the correct road.
Sometimes we can see for ourselves that we are off course and make the necessary corrections. The apostle John reminds us that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). There are other times, however, assistance from others is necessary to help us see we have made a wrong turn. We find from James the following words: “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins” (James 5:19-20).
As we continue this journey of life, there will be times we “veer off course” or “make a wrong turn.” When it happens, may we through our own recognition or through the loving admonition of our brothers and sisters in Christ, repent of our sins and return to the only “way, truth, and life”, Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
