For anyone who knows me, I like my sweets. And during recent events (my birthday and our gospel meeting), I had the opportunity to partake of a wide variety of my favorite desserts (chocolate chip cookies, no bake cookies, key lime pie). They all put a smile on my face.
Of greater joy to me was the opportunity to hear the word of God faithfully proclaimed on four consecutive days by a dear friend and faithful gospel preacher. What great food for the soul! In addition to that, many brothers and sisters in Christ from surrounding congregations supported the meeting, allowing for fellowship with old friends and the making of new ones. What a great encouragement it was to see so many of like precious faith together under one roof!
Having said all of this, with our world in such a state of turmoil, it’s important to remember that this world is not our home. And rather than allowing it to “get the best of us,” may our focus be on serving God and seeking to do His will. What better way to do so than feasting upon God’s word, and focusing on heaven above. As we are reminded in Colossians 3:2-3,
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
To that end, let’s take advantage of our opportunities to “nourish” our hearts and minds with God’s word at every opportunity that arises.
