The human hand is a remarkable extremity. Besides its obvious usage in our lives, our hands can tell us much about our age, health, and even occupation. As a carpenter’s son, Jesus’ hands were strong and rough. However, Christ’s hands would show far more unique qualities.
First, the hands of Jesus helped many people. For instance, Jesus healed a blind man by moistening his eyelids, Mark 8:23. Afterwards, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” How often do we taken the aid of Jesus for granted? How often are we ungrateful for the blessings which assist our lives? Romans 1:21.
Second, the hands of Jesus halted the effects of Satan. Sin is the lasting effect from Satan’s first encounter with humanity. When Jesus cleansed the Temple, he was stopping the sinful actions of man, John 2:13. By observing this action, we can understand that Jesus will find sin and drive it out. We must remove all sin.
Third, the hands of Jesus were humbled by His love for us. Jesus’ hands were silent at his crucifixion, Matthew 27:35. David prophesied about those hands in Psalm 22:16. His hands were stilled; HE DID THAT not the Jewish crowd who called out for him to be crucified, not the Jewish leaders who called for him to be put to death, and not the Roman soldiers who placed
those huge, iron nails and drove it though, piercing skin, muscle, tendon, and bone, Philippians 2:8. It wasn’t the Roman nails that kept him up on the cross, it was HIS HUMILITY. He still invites and reaches out today. Will you reach for him?
