As I scroll through my phone, I see various sayings, cliches,’ and man’s insights. Often,
words are misquoted, taken out of context, or just plainly attributed to the wrong author. When it
comes to Jesus Christ, we had better know what he said but also what he did not say.
First, Christ never said to be tolerant of other beliefs. Tolerant means the willingness to
accept beliefs which are foreign to the Bible. Often, we hear this cry from those who feel they
have the right to practice things contrary of bible teaching, but practicing is not enough; they
want their foreign practices accepted by others. Jesus never said to be tolerant or error (religious
error). Matthew 7:21, Matthew 7:13-14. Sound doctrine and the doctrines of lustful men cannot
exist together, John 14:6. The Son of God sacrificed is only life upon his only cross. How come
those of false doctrines cannot be tolerant of these Bible facts?
Second, Christ never said that doing good and being good was enough. It is the age-old
argument that being good and doing good is pleasing in God’s eyes and with that realization,
man feels like he can justify himself to Heaven. But we see all too often today; Christ never
advocated such. A misunderstanding of Matthew 25:21-23 fuels man to assume good is enough
but look what it is attached to; good and faithful (good has an inherent quality of faithful
obedience) not good according to man’s subjective standard. We cannot have one without the
other. We must take what God supplies us and then according to His Will, do our service to Him.
Third, Christ never said that I deserve to be happy. Man tends to view happiness as
temporary satisfaction because of getting our way, and as such, some feel that since they let God
in their lives that God owes them something. Happiness is not a deserved right but a byproduct
of our obedience, John 13:17. Happiness is a one of purposes for Christ’s word, John 15:11.
With Psalm 37:4, let us make no mistake God desires us to be happy, but it must relate to Him.
